fatdcuk Posted January 1, 2008 Unlucky It looks like the latest evolution of Vundo(mass file infector variant) which is a PITA to get rid off as you can guess from the amount of botkillers you have installed and are probaly failing as teh infection reinstalls on bootup... What this evo of Vundo does after it goes native(installs in ) is scans your start up list for potential target executables.Once it identifies available executable's it performs 2 actions. One action is to copy and rename the original target executable...e.g take an executable called loader.exe it will rename it to loader .exe(note the space). At the same time it appends code (patchs/wraps) itself onto the original target file( e.g loader.exe) so when that file runs at startup so does the appended malware code. This is why all your softwares that detect the trojan in and then affect a removal on it but after a reboot it returns It sure is a PITA for autofix's to rip out so here's hoping Nick @ SAS HQ can bring onestop solution to this new malware.
