SUPERAntiSpyware Causing 100% System Memory Usage?

I went to run a spyware scan using SUPERAntiSpyware Free Edition this morning, and I walked away from my computer for a couple minutes. When I returned, my screen was black, but the computer was still running. So I shut the computer down using the power button. I rebooted and and when it was up, I restarted SAS. Walked away for a minute and when I came back, there was an error message from SAS saying something happened and do I want to send a report and shut it down.

Before I hit yes, I checked in task manager to see what was going on, because the AERO theme had reverted to Windows basic as well. When I looked at task manager I noticed that my physical memory was at 98%. I had nothing else running at the time.

So I closed SAS and uninstalled, used CCleaner to be sure that all traces of it was gone and then rebooted my computer, then re-installed it. Check to see if it would happen again, and it did. It literally starts using all my ram.

I have used this program many, many times before and never had an issue with it. I completed a Malwarebytes scan right before the SAS scan and it had no issues.

I have 8 GB of ram in my system, with only 11% of it being used when the computer is done booting up and I am sitting at the desktop. My OS is Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit.

Has anyone else had this problem with SAS recently?

I really do not want stop using it, but if I can't figure out the issue, I will have to find something else to use in conjunction with Malwarebytes Free Edition.

What version are you using ? (i.e. SAS version x.x.xxxx, Core and Trace number)

Neither of these are needed and are more scareware than anything else.

This is not needed in Win 7 due to the automated defrag built in to the OS.

 

Both TuneUp and Puran will probably be running on a schedule, this may be causing interference/conflicts with the scanner.

 

If you would like to remove those programs (as they really are not needed) then you should use Revo uninstaller in Advanced mode (free edition toward the bottom of page).

Install using Custom option and uncheck any additional items that you don't want (i.e. Google Chrome/Toolbars etc).

Remove all reg entries/files it finds for those programs (there will be a lot).

 

If either program asks to restart during the uninstall process, select No.

Thank you for your replies, but I can tell you that Tune-up utilities is only running when I allow it to, otherwise it's service is turned off in the services list.

 

I still prefer to use a 3rd party defragger in order to defrag my drives. Puran does not run at a scheduled time. It runs only when I ask it to via it's control panel. Puran Defrag is also disabled in my services list.

 

Any other ideas?

Can you try running the SAS uninstaller and restarting the computer then download SAS again and try as it does appear the SASDIFSV file is failing to load for some reason.

Did as you asked with uninstalling SAS using the uninstaller and it did it again.

 

I just ran DDS and nothing has changed as far as anymore errors. The last one is the same one from this morning.

Can you navigate to the Superantispyware folder in your local drive should be somewhere like c:\ProgramFiles\Superantispyware\sasdifsv.sys ?

 

If you can find it, right click it and try to open it with Notepad (it won't make much sense we are just seeing if it will open).

I was able to open it using notepad, although right clicking it did not work, I had to open notepad and browse to it in order to open it.

Unfortunately I don't have any more suggestions for you other than to create a support ticket and explain the nature of your problem to customer service, please bare with it though as they are busy and may not work weekends (I don't know this for sure).
