Portable edition - prevent usb infection

Recommended Posts

Is there anyway the clever people in the development department could make it so that the portable edition could protect your usb stick from cross contamination so that inserting your usb with the portable edition on it, will not be as daunting as it can be now :)

Some kind of USB lockdown so only SAS can run until unlocked? :)

You can write protect your USB drives by opening (or creating) the following registry key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\StorageDevicePolicies

Then add or modify the WriteProtect DWORD value to be 1 (or 0 to allow write access again). Changing this value may require a reboot to take effect. However, there's nothing stopping an infection from changing that registry value or even bypassing that setting if it is clever enough.

Unfortunately there would be nothing SUPERAntiSpyware could do before you insert the USB drive, since it isn't yet running.
