No Detection of Cookies

Recommended Posts

I recently upgraded to Firefox 4.0 Gold and now when I perform a scan with SAS Free Edition, it will not detect spyware cookies...SAS reports no (zero) malicious software detected.

I tried a clean reboot back into XP SP3 then did not open Firefox before performing the SAS scan in case SAS was detecting FF as still running, no change. I downloaded the latest SAS Free installer, uninstalled SAS & rebooted, reinstalled SAS & updated, confirmed the "Scan for tracking cookies" option was active, checked that the "Allowed/Trusted Items" & "Excluded Folders" lists are blank then ran a scan and still zero tracking cookies detected.

I know unwanted cookies are present as they show up in the cookie removal tool in Ccleaner...as this is a manual, tedious process, it's really not a workaround...

Could this be a bug in either FF 4.0 or SAS Free? The scanner was detecting spy cookies seemingly fine while I was running Firefox 4 Beta versions. I did a clean install of FF (exported bookmarks, completely uninstalled FF, rebooted, reinstalled FF, imported bookmarks).

I've done a full system scan with Kaspersky Internet Security 2011 and have run Malwarebytes (both up-to-date)-- both show no infections...

Please post a complete scan log first.

I apologize for the lag in my reply, I sometimes work crazy hours...

Since I first posted, I took the additional step of uninstalling Firefox 4.0 again, even going into XP's Program Files folder and deleting any Mozilla/Firefox folders contained there...then I rebooted, reinstalled a fresh copy of FF 4.0 gold, then rebooted after collecting a few spy cookies, ran a full system scan and sadly, SAS Free still is not detecting my FF cookies, log below:

I'm still working on the issue...

I've tried removing every trace of both Firefox and SAS, then reinstalling them while rebooting between installations, and still no joy in detecting tracking cookies inside of FF...and now I've observed the same behavior on a 2nd PC running Win 7 SP1 with FF 4.0 & SAS 4.50.1002 -- it will not sift through obvious tracking cookies ("No harmful software detected").

FF 4.0 apparently stores cookies ("cookies.sqlite", etc.) in C:\Documents and Settings\"User Name"\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles in an XP environment just as earlier versions did...I don't understand how SAS could be confused...

Are we to understand that SAS will no longer sort out tracking cookies for non-Internet-Explorer browsers?

I am having the same exact issue and it is driving me nuts. I can see tons of cookies under the Tools>Options/Privacy tab in Firefox 4.0.1, but when I run SAS and/or AVG since installing 4.0.1, neither application is finding the cookies!!! HELP!!!!
