Incremental Updating

Recommended Posts

I am wondering if SAS Pro has incremental updating in the current version or if it will be available in the new v.5.

If not, what is the approx size of the update download?

Thank you

The impending V5 is supposed to utilize incremental updating. The link below will show you what the download size is without incremental updating.

The last official response to that question was that the pre-release is "very close". There is no public commitment on when V5.0 will be issued as a general release.

We won't have incremental updating in 5.0, but the definitions (new compression and technology) are over 30% smaller, which means faster downloads, less bandwidth and improved performance.

We are testing the pre-release in-house now and will be releasing to select memebers for testing then public pre-release will follow.

Thanks for the information.

So, the updates will be about 4mb. I have dialup internet so unfortunately even a smaller download is time consuming and restricts the browser activity.

When do you expect to have incremental updating?

Why dont use incremental updates? It is faster and better. You are falling behind of competence because of this.

While incremental updates will be a nice feature in the future, detecting and removing malware/spyware remains our highest priority - our definitions are quite small <4MB (thus much lighter than other products) so incremental updates wouldn't benefit our users as much other features and product enhancements. Incremental updates is on our list, but won't be available with the first 5.0 release.
