jerrymcg Posted September 16, 2010 Greetings, I'm getting the popups that say I'm infected with Win32/Nugel.E and BankerFox.A I can't download any other antivirus softwares and open it. I can't get to removals in my control panel. On one occasion I got SAS Pro to open and run, but it didn't find anything. I'm also getting blocked for updates. Is there anyway to get a scan/removal done without downloading something..... since it won't let me open it. Thanks, Jerry

Seth Posted September 16, 2010 Greetings, I can't download and then open "anything" "Almost everything" I try to open, it gives me a popup that says it's infected and it gets blocked. Thanks, Jerry Hi Jerry. Download the portable via a working computer. You can then burn it, or save it to a USB stick. Then run the portable from Safe Mode. jerrymcg Posted September 17, 2010 There was.... 2-Trojan.FakeAlert-GetSN 708-Adware.TrackingCookie The Trojans sound like the bugger, but there wasn't any change at all. Could it help if I download the SAS Pro and run that in safe mode ?
jerrymcg Posted September 20, 2010 What else can I do ? The infected computer is used in my business and being down is quite a headache. Thanks, Jerry
Seth Posted September 20, 2010 I'm getting the popups that say I'm infected with Win32/Nugel.E and BankerFox.A Is it a particular program that's telling you that the system has the above infections? If so, what program? On one occasion I got SAS Pro to open and run, but it didn't find anything. If SAS is running now, close it, then go to the SAS folder and run "SuperAntiSpyware Alternate Start". If it opens, update SAS, run a complete scan, and post the log. Also have a look here: https://www.superantispyware.com/supportfaqdisplay.html?faq=
jerrymcg Posted September 21, 2010 Hi Seth, Thanks for getting back.... Now things are a bit bizarre...... Question: Are there any viruses that will hibernate ? I wasn't real clear on following your steps, so I tried to get updates. My firewall was blocking and despite messing with various setting, it continued to block. (keep in mind, that by now I would have had quite a few go arounds with the virus popups......but they weren't coming) I deleted SAS and downloaded a new version. Still no popups......plus I could access things like my contol panel.....which I couldn't before. I ran SAS pro and it only found a few adware cookies. Still no signs of the virus. So.....the virus "appears" to have disappeared. Prior to doing anything new. The only thing different right now is that my Internet Explorer has stopped accessing the Internet. Firefox works..... Any ideas on what transpired ? And could that sucker still be in there hibernating ? Thanks, Jerry
Seth Posted September 21, 2010 Only have a few seconds right now.... Try resetting IE: 1. Exit all programs, including Internet Explorer (if it is running). 2. If you use Windows XP, click Start, and then click Run. Type the following command in the Open box, and then press ENTER: inetcpl.cpl If you use Windows Vista, click Start Collapse this imageExpand this image Start button . Type the following command in the Start Search box, and then press ENTER: inetcpl.cpl The Internet Options dialog box appears. 3. Click the Advanced tab. 4. Under Reset Internet Explorer settings, click Reset. Then click Reset again. 5. When Internet Explorer finishes resetting the settings, click Close in the Reset Internet Explorer Settings dialog box. 6. Start Internet Explorer again. If that doesn't help, go into IE's Tools-->Internet Options--Connections--Lan Settings. make sure "Use a Proxy Server..." is unchecked. Back later:)
jerrymcg Posted September 21, 2010 Hi Seth, I went and installed IE8....and it had the same access problems. I then reset all the default settings, and now everything is fine. So, what do you think happened to my critter ? Just don't tell me that he can still be in there taking a nap.... Thanks, Jerry
Seth Posted September 21, 2010 You're welcome. I then reset all the default settings, and now everything is fine. Do you mean you "reset" IE as per the instructions I posted? So, what do you think happened to my critter ? In this instance, it's like asking, "Can you perform an autopsy over the internet" What does your system run for real time protection?
