alex30 Posted July 21, 2009 Hi, I have found recently that SAS would not open. I located and ran RUNSAS and it did open. However it is still taking a long time. Am I supposed to run RUNSAS each time I want to open SAS or is it now added to the programme ? Also it takes an age to update and I cant do anything else whilst this is happening. If I try to do anything I get a hung system and a message that SAS is unable to respond as it is locked by the system. I am as sure as I can be that my system is clean as all scans come up clear apart from Ad ware tracking cookies, including scans by SAS . It is scanning OK. The install was done on a reinstall of Windows and has been slow from the start. I would really appreciate any help. Regards Alex.
lightning slinger Posted July 21, 2009 Hi Alex, I think if you refer to the following thread you will find you are not the only user suffering from this problem. viewtopic.php?f=2&t=3177 I use version 4.24.1004 of SAS and it has gone from opening within 5 seconds to taking just under 30 seconds to open and thats is just in the past few weeks. alex30 Posted July 21, 2009 Hi, Thanks Colin and SAS Service, I have run a scan with an updated SAS but it revealed nothing. I have also scanned with Spybot Search and Destroy, Malwrebytes Anti Malware, IOBit Security360 and Avast Anti Virus. All this on a new install after reformatting the hard drive. I just don't think I have an infection although I would concede it is not impossible. The thing is, everything else is functioning correctly. It is just SAS which is behaving oddly. It is taking over 2 minutes to open and will hang on the update. Once started it scans OK. Any thoughts as to what may help? Regards Alex
alex30 Posted July 22, 2009 Hi SAS Service, SAS actually opened faster when the boxes for update checking were ticked ! Incredible as I would have expected the checking to slow things up. Having said that I am not sure these checks are actually happening as there is never any notification to say they are taking place when the programme opens and no updates are noted. Also when I do a manual check for updates I do sometimes find some despite a check supposedly having just been done. Regards Alex.

alex30 Posted July 24, 2009 Hi SASService, I have done as you suggested and sent a report off. Just one thing I have noticed since looking at my logs was the discrepancy in number of items scanned for my different malware programmes. SAS 12,667 quick scan 27,198 full scan Malwarebytes 84,044 quick scan 138,046 full scan IOBit360 60,125 quick scan 107,518 full scan In view of the big difference do you think SAS is working properly or is this normal ? alex30 Posted July 27, 2009 Hi, I am afraid unchecking the updates boxes didn't help. What was that reference to a much earlier solution ? Regards Alex.
