"First Chance Prevention"

Recommended Posts

:D Hi :

In a thread started by "Legend Killer" ( Pro Wrestler Randy Horton !? ),

it appears that First Chance ( Prevention ) was mentioned as also being

in the "Free" version and a "Reg" file was offered to "disable" it .

However, when viewing the "Comparison" between the "Free" & "Pro"

version, there is no "green arrow" shown under the "Free" category

as there is for the "Pro" version besides "First Chance Prevention" !?

The Free Edition uses the First Chance system only to remove items flagged by the scanner - the Professional actually will scan and remove the items on startup and shutdown - effectively "scanning" all of the critical startup locations. The Winlogon Notify handler loading and performing its tasks is what takes the time - it really should not slow the system down more than a few seconds on startup and shutdown.

What I have found that slows down reboots is when a program such as SAS immediately starts checking for updates as soon as it is started up. On reboots, this internet access can occur before the system's firewall is fully loaded and active.

SAS has a selectable option to "check for updates when the program starts". I uncheck that option to prevent a SAS/Firewall fight on system reboot. I have always felt that such an option should have a time delay parameter that the user can specify which can then be used to let a rebooting system to stabilize before the check for update invokes itself.

JMO and experience

If you wish, you can disable the Winlogon item for SAS using e.g. Spybot (advanced mode, tools, syatem startup). just uncheck it there. To renable, check it there, restart.

:D Hi Nick :

Based on your explanation, perhaps "Limited" should be placed under

"SUPERAntiSpywareFree" next to "First Chance Prevention" as it currently

is next to "Repair broken Internet Connections" at :

https://www.superantispyware.com/superan ... vspro.html !?

The First Chance in the Free Edition doesn't scan and remove - it's only used to remove items previously detected by the scanner - so limited would not be accurate. I appreciate your suggestion.
