    Was Update Successful?

Earlier, this week I update my SAS free Edition. However, when it finished downloading and updating, the update window appeared and instead of displaying what was update, it said that the site was temporarily unavailable. I update later in the day with the usual update window, but was my previous update succcess despite that message?
  2. He's not the only one with problem. Since the recent version update it can take up to 10 minutes to update CORE definitions (For some reason, most of the updates are CORE, not trace, why?). In fact I was going to make a post about this problem as I had to do a force restart when it went beyond 10 minutes. I think the problem may be on SAS's end than ours.

    SAS and Norton 360

I have Norton 360 (N360) v5 as my primary AV and SAS Free Edition. When I scan with an on-demand scanner such as SAS or Malwarebytes Anti-Malware, I configure N360 to go to silent mode. If I don't, N360 will perform background tasks which includes a full system scan. Usually, this involves choosing the main program file, which when run, will cause N360 to go to silent mode. For example, for Malwarebytes, the file "mbam.exe" in the Malwarebytes folder is chosen. Whereas I can get it to go silent with Malwarebytes, I can't see to get it to work with SAS. I have the file, "SUPERANTISPYWARE.exe" chosen for silent mode. However, when I run SAS, N360 will go silent for 2 seconds. I don't know if the problem lies with N360 or am I choosing the wrong file for it in the SAS folder. Any help would be appreciated.

    Corrupted SAS?

Currently, I'm using SAS4.34.1000 on Windows XP SP3. As far as I can remember, I've had this version for well over a year. Over the past few months, I've noticed it takes a while to do updates. If I have something running, such as Firefox, it can take 5-10 mins to install an update. Just now, it actually locked up my computer and I had to do a restart. It will do an update quickly if nothing else is running. Also, I've noticed SAS 5.0.1108 is now out. Yet, when I use the update button on the SAS icon in the system tray, it will do definitions updates, but not new versions. Previously, I remember it doing version updates. So, this makes wonder if SAS has become corrupted. If so, can I do a simple uninstall and re-install or is a special uninstaller needed? Additionally, I noticed the current version is having problems with IE and you'll be releasing a fix. When will this update version be available?

    Corrupted SAS?

I'm confused. I went to the page and read this: "Important : You MUST uninstall any previous version before installing this version." So, do I uninstall the old version or not?

    Time Out Update Cancellation

Recently, I've been having problems with my DSL connection going offline. One of these times was when I was updating SAS Free Edition. When the DSL reconnect 15 minutes later, the SAS update didn't continue. I had to restart my computer to stop SAS. Would it be possible to program the update option to disconnect after not receiving data after maybe 10 minutes? I know Task Manager and Process Explorer are denied access as a anti-malware feature, so I can't stop it manually. So, a timed-out cancellation would be helpful, especially if the disconnection was due to malware. I would at least have access to SAS to deal with it.

    Update cut-off

Recently, I've been having problems with my DSL. One of these instances was when SAS Free Edition was updating. When the DSL reconnected 15 minutes later, the SAS updater didn't and I had to restart my computer to stop SAS. I was able to update after the restart. However, I'd like to know if SAS could be corrupted or damaged by this type of situation?

    Can't remove rootkit.agent

Root kits are very difficult to remove and most AV programs can't do it. I had the same one, UAC, and an additional one, a variant TDSS, and it took several steps to remove them. Have you tried the Malwarebytes' forum, since you have that program? http://www.malwarebytes.org/forums/inde ... topic=9573 Also, you can try the Bleeping Computer forums( scroll down to Security: Am I infected? What do I do?) http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/
  9. I hope I'm not out of line here, by posting about another forum, but there is currently a thread on the Norton Forums concerning ESQULSERV.SYS and the development of a procedure for the removal of it and its components that may interest the original poster. http://community.norton.com/norton/boar ... d.id=16935

    No Firefox 3.5.1 Support?

Recently, due to a now removed rootkit, I had to uninstall and re-install AOL 9.1. During the re-installation, I chose Recommended, instead of Custom Installation. This meant, that AOL.com would become my homepage on my browsers. When AOL attempted to change the homepage, SAS prompted me to whether to allow or block it. I chose to block it. However, it seems this only blocked it for Internet Explorer 8, not Firefox 3.5.1 as AOL.com was my homepage there. Does SAS support Hijack protection for Firefox? If not, do you plan to do so in the future?
