SuperAntiSpyware

mogojohn started following high handles usage?, Microsoft Security Essentials and SAS Pro, Update disabling startup? and and 5 others
-
I am running Superantispyware 5.0 Pre-release with MSE and MalwareBytes Pro on Windows 7 32 bit without any exclusions in SAS or MSE, and so far without any issues. However Microsoft will advise against using any other real-time malware software with MSE, so if you have a problem you may not get assistance from them.

XP Anti Virus 2011 - Removed but issues remain
mogojohn replied to dangerpay's topic in General Questions
You could try the MSE uninstall/reinstall method here http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/protect/forum/protect_start/remove-and-reinstall/0d69001f-af50-4a20-9430-01f2fa30316e Otherwise try manually uninstalling MSE then reinstalling it http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2435760/ -
help, a virus has caused my computer to loose file association
mogojohn replied to flywelder's topic in General Questions
The fake virus alert that infected your computer probably just hid all your start menu and data etc. Provided that your computer has been cleaned of the XP Security Centre, you should be able to reinstate your Start menu & data etc by downloading and running unhide.exe from this link http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/grinler/unhide.exe -
Update your Java and Flash Player: Critical Security Updates
mogojohn replied to siliconman01's topic in General Questions
I agree this is very important. Here is another link that checks for the latest Java, checks if it is working, and puts a green tick if latest version is installed http://www.java.com/en/download/testjava.jsp -
version 4.48.100 See attached pictures - Number of files detected is actually 3, summary says 2.

As a workaround to get SAS operational, can you download the file from www.superantispyware.com on your laptop then put it on a flash drive and install from that on your desktop?
-
I run both SAS and Malwarebytes 1.5. I know of no conflict between those two programs. I would say from your information that you have malware - Trojan.Goldun seems to be a password stealer for E-Gold online bank.

Do you have a router connected? I, and others have been hit with router hijack - computer behaviour for me was some websites loading normally, others loading pathetically slowly or not at all, websites such as microsoft, facebook for example would not load at all. This was fixed in my case (with help from a competitor's forum) by: - changing the admin password on the router - disconnecting all computers from the router - resetting the router - then on each computer normally connected to the router, reset TCP/IP, reboot then flush the DNS, reboot, reconnect router. Then do a full scan with your AV and SAS to see if anything residual.

Are you running SAS alongside Anti-Virus software?
mogojohn replied to jimstolz76's topic in General Questions
You can run MSE and SAS with real-time protection, I do with both XP and W7 -
I just did some tests on W7x32 with SAS Pro While SAS first starts (with real time protection), updates, then settles down, handle numbers are low, between 300-500. Handles don't increase unless a scan is invoked. During a quick scan the handles went up to 23,600 and hovered in that region The number of handles did not reduce after the scan completion. I ended SAS then restarted it and handles were back to 322. Seems like there is a problem.

SAS Pro And Microsoft Security Essentials
mogojohn replied to Blackjack Davey's topic in General Questions
I have been running SAS Pro with Real time protection along with MSE on Windows 7 and 3 x XP's since MSE was released. I have had no problems. However, if you want assistance from Microsoft to resolve any issues with MSE, they will insist that you remove all other security software. -
I run both on W7 x 32 with no problems.
