  1. You should not have to re-install Avast. Make sure SAS is updated, then proceed to uninstall Avast, but instead of choosing Uninstall, choose Repair. Once the repair is complete, restart the computer and Avast should be fine.

  3. 1) Disable System Restore. 2) Run a quick scan with MB and SAS from Normal Mode. Remove anything each may find. However, if SAS finds System.BrokenFileAssociation HKCR\.exe, then Trust/Allow it. 3) Restart the computer and enable System Restore. 4) If you still can't enable the Security Settings options, then run CF as per the instructions I gave in a previous post.
  4. I wouldn't recommend running system restore, as many infections will infect the restore points. Go ahead and reset the restore points by disabling SR, then enabling it. Are you still not able to turn on your security settings options?

  6. The most practical option right now is to backup any important data from your sons account, then delete the account and create a new one for him.
  7. The MalwareBytes log shows that those registry items were fixed. Disable System Restore, run MB and SAS, and make sure those items are checked off in the threats found list. If the issue still remains following that, then run ComboFix as advised.

  11. Hi Yurd. Are you running any sort of startup utility manager? (Note that some antivirus programs will have such a utility). If not, the first step is to note your product key, then re-install.   18. I should have worded that more accurately. During the scan, if you click on "Stop Scan", you'll have the option to remove the items found so far.

  22. Welcome to the SAS forum. I don't think I understand your question. You're saying SAS won't update, but the computer isn't connected to the internet???
  23. Let me re-phrase that: It only seems to happen in rare instances on XP systems. Other than that, you'll have to wait for a SAS developer to answer any other questions about it.
