I have been able to stop a few popups by identifying the site they originated from and adding them to my Internet Explorer blocks. (Tools, Internet Options, Privacy, Sites). These were benign popups, though, and ones commonly used on benign websites. One was a mini-ad that pops up when your cursor crosses a link. They were also relatively easy to find information about on the Internet. Malicious popups, I'm not too sure about. I don't think most AV and antimalware software block popups unless they are identified as malicious. There are some programs for that, though.
  2. That's good to know. I guess I'll just wait and see what happens. I've used the two together before with no problem, but that's been awhile. While I've used SAS consistently since about July of last year, I've done some experimenting with AVs in the interim. Thanks for your your feedback.
  3. Hi, it's me again. I'm trying to figure out if there are ways I can prevent other security programs from interfering with SAS, either while scanning or real time. If this information is already posted somewhere, a link would be appreciated. Avira is a good program, but it does tend to butt in while other security programs are active. It allows exceptions for its guard and scanner for processes and file objects. Thanks.
  4. I don't remember being asked *globally* whether I wanted adware, but I agree with you that it had to be something I did. It sure was a surprise to see that there. I'm going to have a look at some of the functions that SAS performs. I probably will have to exclude SAS files from Avira and other programs so there is no conflict anywhere regardless of the version. Thanks for your response. I appreciate it.
  5. I have the free version of SAS and am very pleased with it. I checked all my preferences tonight (which I don't do very often) and saw that under allowed items was: Adware.Tracking cookie (entire family trusted). Am I reading this right? Does that mean that all ad cookies will be exempt from scanning? I know I didn't put that there deliberately. I wouldn't have known how to even if I was that dumb. I recently had a browser hijack attempt (a couple of weeks ago) and was alerted by SAS to block/don't block. MBAM actually grabbed it up and quarantined it. But I'm wondering if this new "allowed" item somehow got there during this incident. Is that even possible?? Or could I have done something that inadvertently caused this. I'm truly baffled. Another question I have is: Can I run both MBAM and SAS real time or will they conflict? I was considering the paid SAS program, but wasn't sure if it was a good idea. Thanks very much.
