In Topic: Lack of weekend updates

05 March 2012 - 05:36 PM

The "updates" issue has been going on for quite some time now as reflected in other peoples posts. I, personally, don't have an issue with malware since I run Linux exclusively on my machine, but the rest of my family run Windows, and I would like their machines to be as safe as possible on a daily basis. Since my last post, I've started running MBAM along side SAS and making comparisons. I'm confident MBAM can protect their machines as effectively as SAS, and there is no gap for updates on weekends. So, I'm removing SAS from all the Windows machines in my home.

The other deciding factor for removal is something in the newest version that I have recenly installed on my family's machines called SAS Core. There is no available information about what this is or does. I've Googled this many times of over the past few weeks with no positive results. There is no techincal info, no wiki, and no explanation of this process. Every time someone else has inquired about this, the answer is always something like "you need it, so don't worry about it." Sorry folks, if you can't explain it, I don't need it.

Reinstall with version 5.0.1144:
http://www.superanti...m/download.html

OK. Just installed 5.0.1144 Free Edition on one machine. Since the definitions are updated to most current during install, I'll check to see how things are after the next definition update. Also going to try the portable version on another machine.

EDIT: New desktop version updates just fine. Portable version works as well. Thanks for your help.

The free edition and professional edition are still working properly,

Just a heads up, the free edition is not working. The difinitions on 3 of my desktops show 2/8/12. I tried yesterday and today to update the definitions, but it keeps telling me they are up to date. I found the definition download page and installed the most current version manually. (2/10/12  8230/6042). I'll check again tomorrow, hopefully things will be sorted out.
