I don't want to make too much of a fuss because I'm using the free version (5.0.1144), although I wouldn't be so restrained if I was using the paid for version.

The last definition update available is 8260. This was released on 17/02/12 (Friday). Have just checked for updates on 21/02/12 (Tuesday) and nothing new available.

This seems to be a regular pattern.

Three days without updates is not really goog enough.

Unfortunately, the idiots who produce malware do not have weekends off!

Hi Smirnoff,

I totally agree with your comment, even more as I'm using the Pro version and as this issue happens now every weekend !
I really would like to know why this is so ... and I'm sure that I'm not the only one ... :-(

If an official from SAS could explain that situation, it would be great !
Thank you.

I first raised this question way back in October.

Again, as I was using the free version, I was reluctant to make too much of a fuss.

However, free or not, weekend updates are needed and as you are using the Pro version you are probably more annoyed than me.

This is my original post:

As you can see, I didn't get any replies!

Thanks for your reply; let's hope we'll get an explanation from SAS this time because this is annoying and , as said, happens now systematically every weekend ... ;-)

SAS said they are working on it, but it is a slow process. Maybe they'll have it fixed in the (Near / Far) future. Good Luck! See this post:

This has been the same story for months now. Moderator says it's fixed or will be shortly. In the meantime, I've found alternative products that actually update and work like they should. I've had several clients get bugs that should have been caught by a current update. They have paid for something I recommended and now I have egg on my face as a result. Might be that there's an incentive for this program to fail. Check out the new owners and see what else they offer. It's time for the company to fix the problem or close up shop. Lack of updates, false positives, bugs slipping through the cracks, broken portable version due to updates, and whatever else is failing at the moment. I have lost confidence in a once decent program. On another thread, we were told the portable was fixed several times, while it remained broken. There appears to be no staff over a weekend, and it seems like they start working around Wednesday to sort out last weeks issues.

How about the truth about what is going on? Are you guys going out of business? Doing this deliberately to push business to another part of the company? How about some insight into what the real problems are here.

Sorry to sound a bit critical, but somethings going on and it does not seem to be a priority for you. I'd love to put you back on my "recommeded" programs list, but not until you get serious about supporting your products and fixing these ongoing issues.

The updating and portable issues are caused by an infrastructure upgrade to a new CDN, obviously this is something that doesn't happen often and there are bugs to work out. False positives and missed detections are a reality of every anti-malware program. Weekend updates have already been discussed, see ProTruckDriver's post. There are lots of improvements and enhancements in the works and the developers are coming up with new ideas every day. Certainly not "going out of business," quite the opposite.

Sure, it's been discussed what people are slightly miffed about is that nothing literally is happening from the looks of it with regards to daily year round updates. It might be that several things are going on behind curtains and management is being replaced etc....which will take time, at least Nick has been very quite for much longer than he ever was in the past. BUT, it does not take this long to add more staff capable of adding signatures if there's willingness to hire/train them.

The CDN bug happens and was fixed in a jippy IMHO, the complete lack of updates have been going on for months without any solution. Hope you're getting this transformation of your organisation in order soon, because you're loosing users to competitors who can do it every single day. :)

Hello,

Well, it seems that SAS has improved the updates over weekends : I could see updates yesterday as well as today ! :)
Let's hope that this isn't a "one shot" and that it will stay like this ... ;-)

Thank you !

Between weekends "OFF" from updates and the recent update problems in general, I think that my renewal of PRO at the end of the month islikely not going to happen.

I have not been able to updat definitions since Feb. 10. The program always says my definitions are up to date, and going to the websote and manually downloading the updates does nothinbg when I run the installer.

Free Version 4.33.1000

Since you're using the free version why don't you download the newest version 5.0.1144 and this will fix your problem. It's still free to use just like the antique version you are trying to use. Wake up and smell the coffee IT'S FREE.

We have migrated to a CDN to provide faster delivery of the definitions, that's why there was the small issue while the migration happened. Now we are fully on the CDN and delivery happens much faster for everyone worldwide.

The "updates" issue has been going on for quite some time now as reflected in other peoples posts. I, personally, don't have an issue with malware since I run Linux exclusively on my machine, but the rest of my family run Windows, and I would like their machines to be as safe as possible on a daily basis. Since my last post, I've started running MBAM along side SAS and making comparisons. I'm confident MBAM can protect their machines as effectively as SAS, and there is no gap for updates on weekends. So, I'm removing SAS from all the Windows machines in my home.

The other deciding factor for removal is something in the newest version that I have recenly installed on my family's machines called SAS Core. There is no available information about what this is or does. I've Googled this many times of over the past few weeks with no positive results. There is no techincal info, no wiki, and no explanation of this process. Every time someone else has inquired about this, the answer is always something like "you need it, so don't worry about it." Sorry folks, if you can't explain it, I don't need it.
